Exploring the Southern Oregon Coast

Nestled along the rugged shores of the Pacific, the Southern Oregon Coast offers a breathtaking combination of towering cliffs, pristine beaches, and unique flora and fauna. Encompassing the area from Reedsport south to Brookings (right near the California border), the Southern Oregon Coast includes the towns of Coos Bay, Bandon, Port Orford, and Gold Beach. Our team recently experienced the region – immersing ourselves in the natural landscapes of the wild coastline.

Day 1: Arrive in Bandon

Approximately 4.5 hours from Snow Peak’s Portland headquarters, the trip south was smooth, meandering through the small towns and farmlands dotting the coast range. Our journey brought us to the coastal town of Bandon, where we settled into our cozy beach house. The town offers year-round outdoor activities – hiking, cycling, golfing, and fishing are all within reach.

Day 2: Exploring Sisters Rock

On our first full day at the coast, we headed to the scenic Sisters Rock State Park to test the new Land Nest capsule collection, a tent and tarp series designed to simplify the camping experience. Named for the trio of majestic rocks, the park is located just north of Gold Beach. Two massive rocks connect via a land bridge to the coastline, while a third is surrounded by frothing surf. We found a flat spot for our day site with unbelievable panoramic views of natural rock formations, with the foaming waves rolling into the sandy shoreline below. Please note that overnight camping is not permitted at this location. This content was produced during day use when a burn ban was not in place. Please always follow camping and burning regulations.

We enjoyed a nourishing dinner of curry made on the IGT Camp Kitchen Starter Set, savoring each bite while watching the sun dip lower in the sky. As the clouds began to blush, we gathered around the Takibi Fire & Grill and listened to the sounds of the swifts and surf as the light faded.

Day 3: Charter Fishing & Table Rock

What better way to experience the ocean than by tasting its fresh bounty? We started our second morning on the Southern Oregon Coast with a charter fishing expedition with Port Orford Fishing Charters. We enjoyed the thrill of reeling in a few sizable rockfish for our dinner. After an exhilarating day on the water, we ended the day at a vista with a view of Table Rock, which lies just offshore of Bandon Beach. We set up an impromptu happy hour, sheltered by the Land Nest Tarp. We lounged on cots and shared a few beverages and snacks as we looked out at sea lions and gulls as the sun set.

Day 4: Dunes & Departure

Sand dunes are a quintessential part of the coastal experience, and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is especially impressive, with one towering over 500ft. The dunes offer both excitement and peaceful escape. We enjoyed an adrenaline-pumping ride with Spinreel Dune Buggy and ATV Rentals before settling into a serene and secluded site. Our setup included the Land Lock in Ivory, with expanded sheltered space under the Takibi Tarp Hexa Set. We savored our campfire lunch as we watched the ocean mist roll over the sandy hills. It was a perfect end to our Oregon Coast adventure.  At Snow Peak, our perspective on nature is rooted in the profound belief that it possesses the remarkable ability to heal and restore our spirits. Nowhere is this restorative power more evident than along the captivating coastline. The scent of salt spray mingling with the fresh air invigorated us, and the ruggedly beautiful scenery offered a poignant reminder of the importance of time outside.
